Suriya's Jealousy Over Aarya

The audio launch of ‘Boss Engira Baskaran’ saw together coming of various film personalities of Tamil film industry coming together. Actor Suriya remained as the cynosure of all eyes as he walked onto the dais along with Harris Jayaraj to release the music of ‘Boss Engira Baskaran’.

Expressing his words of appreciation for actor Aarya, Suriya jocosely said, “I become like a green-eyed monster when a Aarya’s song is aired on channels. In fact, my family members keep singing his praises right throughout the song. I feel proud of his adeptness to get him delineated in contrastive roles in every film…”

Also present for the occasion were producer K. Srinivasan, Parthiban, TFPC President Rama Narayanan, Na. Muthukumar, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Na. Muthukumar, filmmakers Dharani, Vijay, Vishnuvardhan, Santhanam, Moser Baer Dhananjayan, cameraman Sakthi Saravanan, choreographer Dinesh, producer R.B. Choudary and many others were present.

Perhaps, the fans of Yuvan Shankar Raja and Nayanthara were disappointed due to their absence.

Suriya's Green Signal For SMS Director

Director Rajesh is far-famed for his hilarious entertainers, but none knew he has a script of heat-pumping action-thriller in his mind. It was revealed by his close pal-cinematographer Sakthi Saravanan during the audio launch of ‘Boss Engira Baskaran’.

As Sakthi Saravanan was asked to share his experience of BEB to the special invitees, he appreciated Rajesh’s great sense of humor and his finest expressions of creative visuals. Turning towards Suriya, he said, “Rajesh has a stunning action thriller script in hand and I request Suriya sir to listen to it…”

When it was Suriya’s turn, the actor gracefully uttered, “sure Rajesh, I will listen to the script in latter in time.”

Well, this turns to be a gateway to bigger show for director Rajesh, who has already signed a big budget comedy flick for producer Udhayanidhi Stalin under the banner of Red Giant Movies.

Shruthi injured whilst shooting

Shruti Haasan, who is making her acting debut in Kollywood with Suriya starrer ‘7am Arivu’, got injured Sunday afternoon while shooting a stunt scene for the A R Murgadoss directed film.

The accident took place when the cast and crew of the Udhayanidhi Stalin’s production venture were shooting some ‘dangerous stunt scenes’ on the Velachery -Tambaram main road, on the outskirts of Chennai.

According to the daughter of ‘Ulaga Nayagan’ Kamal Hassan, the injury is on her elbow, and she is now taking rest. Suriya, on seeing her groaning in pain, immediately rushed to her side and helped a lot.

Shruti added saying “Suriya is a super supportive co-star ready with magic medication and lots of concern!”

Karthi - A supertstar is born....

Karthi has enough reasons to celebrate. His Naan Mahaan Alla is getting rave reviews and the actor hopes that it will be his hat trick of hits in 2010.

The shooting which was in full flow in Chennai, a few days ago, has been wrapped up and we now hear that the 7aam Arivu crew is all set to fly to China to can a few important shots. The team is also intending to shoot the film in several other foreign locations.

Suriya becomes No.1 of Kollywood

Actor Suriya has been officially announced as No. 1 in the Tamil film industry. KUMUDAM – the leading Tamil magazine of India has listed 10 topmost influential celebrities of Kollywood amongst which Suriya has been listed on No.1. The reason they have mentioned is that Suriya is the favorite of Box Office as his films from ‘Pithamaghan’ have done great business. Now all the distributors, producers and theatre owners are so happy about taking up his films.

Suriya’s upcoming film ‘Raktha Charitra’ has done a marvelous business at global box office and the film’s producers are so gleeful that none of their previous films did go for such a big show in overseas.

This is the main reason why Suriya’s 7 AUM ARIVU will be made simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.

Suriya-Jo name their son

Jyothika and Suriya were blessed with a baby boy in the early hours of June 7. It was their second child after a cute girl ‘Diya’.

Suriya’s fans were eagerly waiting for the naming of the boy child for over a month and now they are elated. Suriya and Jyothika have named their son ‘DEV’. Dev means God in Sanskrit. It also means a divine being; an idol; a king.

The naming ceremony was a very private affair that happened amongst the family members.

Suriya’s Singam, released around a couple of months ago, has successfully reached its 50th day in the run all over the release centers. Apart from the other parts of Tamil Nadu where it is continuing its business, the movie is also keeping the turnstiles busy at the theatres across Chennai city.

Singam is an action entertainer from the Hari stable and has Suriya in the lead playing a socio-responsive cop who attempts to fix the system singlehandedly. Anushka is cast opposite him. Devi Sri Prasad has scored for Singam.

Chiranjeevi, Surya and Vijay launch Shivanna's Jogayya

Director Prem's much-hyped movie Jogayya (Jogaiah), which is the 100th movie of Hat-trick hero Shivaraj Kumar, has finally got its muhurtha done yesterday (Monday, 12th July). It was a grand gala function and besides Sandalwood big shots, South Indian superstars like Megastar Chiranjeevi, Ilayathalapathy Vijay and Surya had graced the occasion and wished Shivanna good luck.

Addressing the function Megastar Chiranjeevi, who took time to attend the event amidst on-going sessions in Andhra Pradesh, described Shivanna as his 'close friend'. He said that he was inspired by Dr. Rajkumar's simplicity. "Although Rajanna is physically not alive, his soul is there always with us. Shivaraj Kumar is really lucky to be born as his son. Now he is following his footsteps and upholding 'Annavara' popularity and dignity. I hope Jogayya would break the records of Jogi."


Tamil actor Vijay said that Dr. Raj is also one among the South Indian Superstars like MGR and Shivaji Ganeshan. Shivaraj Kuamr has acted in all kinds movies i.e. love, family, sentimenatal, action and comedy and movies like Om, AK 47 and Jogi are all examples for his talent," Vijay said. "I was given the DVD of Jogi to watch it at home, but I had come to Bangalore to watch in theatres," he recollected the event.

Another special guest on the occasion Tamil actor Surya praised Shivanna and said, "He is a great actor because he has acted in 100 movies in his career of 25 years. I wish Jogayya would celebrate 100 days," the Tamil actor wished him.

However, Shivaraj Kumar surprised everyone gathered at the function by appearing in Jogayya's getup. இந்த நிலையில் ஜோதிகா மீண்டும் கர்ப்பமானார். தற்போது நிறைமாத கர்ப்பமாக உள்ள ஜோதிகாவுக்கு அடுத்த வாரம் குழந்தை பிறக்கும் என டாக்டர்கள் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.

இதையடுத்து 2வது குழந்தையை வரவேற்க சூர்யா குடும்பத்தினர் ஆயத்தமாகி வருகின்றனர்.

SINGAM’S CLIMAX REVEALED

Suriya’s Singam is all set to hit the screens on May 28th and his fans can’t wait for more info on this. There has been enough news already and director Hari has revealed yet another piece of info that will give the Suriya fans another reason to expect this film.

According to Hari, Singam’s climax will begin soon after the interval. He adds that it will be the lengthiest climax ever in a movie. The second half will move so swiftly that it will have the audience at the edge of their seats.

Singam' story revealed

Director Hari has come out with a brief outline of the story of his forthcoming film 'Singam', which has Suriya playing the role of a police officer.

"Suriya plays Duraisingam, who is forced to enter the police force because of his father's wish. After joining the department, he starts loving his job," says the director.

He adds: "The silent and helpful person, who keeps to himself initially, reveals a completely different side of him when provoked by anti social elements. The remaining film is all about his transformation."

Claiming that the movie would be a mix of 'Samy' and 'Kaakha Kaakha', Hari says, "The script would never move too far away from logic. The song picturisations with Anushka are very good and should draw city audiences too."

It’s final and official: Sun Pictures reaffirms that it is releasing its next production Singam next Friday (May 28). Previously, plans were made to release the film on June 11 but it was preponed due to summer vacations. The producers felt that releasing it prior to end of summer vacations will bring in more crowd.


Singam is produced by K.E. Gnyanavel Rajan under the banner name of Studio Green Films and is directed by Hari, who earlier directed Surya in Aaru and Vel. In the film, Anushka acts opposite Surya while Prakash Raj takes on the antagonistic role.


Musical score by Devi Sri Prasad has already become sensational chartbusters and Sun Network has already started its publicity campaigns. Since, it’s Surya’s 25th film, his fans are expecting big from Singam, which is touted to be a family entertainer
with right mix of action, fun, romance, sentiments and glamour.

பாலா இயக்கத்தில் மீண்டும் சூர்யா

விஷால் ஆர்யாவை வைத்து ‘அவன் இவன்’ என்ற படத்தை இயக்கி வருகிறார் பாலா.
இதுவரை இயக்கிய படங்களை எல்லாம் சில வருடங்கள் இழுத்தடித்து வெளியிடும் பாலா இந்தப் படத்தை ஆறு மாதத்தில் முடித்து விடுவேன் என்று சபதம் போட்டுக் கொண்டு வேலை பார்த்து வருகிறார்.

இந்தப் படத்தில் விஷால், ஆர்யா என இருவர் இருக்க சூர்யாவும் இவர்களுடன் இணைகிறார். சிலநிமிடங்கள் வந்து போகும் இவரது கேரக்டர் படத்தில் பெரிய திருப்புமுனையாக இருக்குமாம்.

When Vaaranam Aayiram won a National Award for best Tamil film, I sent him a text saying this was reason enough to continue doing the other kind of cinema. K. S. Ravikumar's unabashedly commercial Aadhavan post Ayan, had many of his fans wondering if Suriya had crossed over to the dark side of formula films.

“Sure I had my lesson too,” Suriya then messaged back. “Do have a lot more responsibility now. Will be more selective.” As Singam is all set to release in the end of May, we talk about what drives his decisions.

“Hari has already assured his fans decent films. Aaru and Vel were both successes. When I was in San Francisco shooting for Vaaranam Aayiram, I thought only people in the villages watch those films. So I was surprised when I met people there who said they had seen Vel and Aaru. I found it weird because I thought they would like only films such as Kaakha Kaakha.”

Singam is not a village-based film, he clarifies. So how is the cop in Singam different from the one in Kaakha Kaakha?

“Duraisingam is not just about the cop, it's about where he started from, what his culture is, why he came to the city and his attachment to his roots. We were shooting in Theri near Thoothukudi when we came across a temple festival and there were many Landcruisers, BMWs and even a Bentley parked outside. People from the city had come there to pray. They stayed for two weeks, connected with their relatives, brought food for the villagers… I found it very touching. We moved to the city and hardly go back to the village. Hari made me want to go back to my village and meet my grandmother.”

Suriya also comes to the director's defence saying: “Hari never moves too far away from logic. The song picturisations with Anushka are very good and should draw city audiences too.”

“This film will surpass the collections from all my previous films,” he declares.

STRIVING FOR BALANCE

“We can't be too urban. A lot of people are from the middle-income group… these people need a different kind of entertainment… I am not saying any film with six songs and fights will work. Whether it is for the rural or the urban market, there must be a strong storyline, a powerful character and situation not seen before.”

“I want to maintain this balance. I shot for 30 days with RGV for Rakthacharitra (Ratthacharithram in Tamil) and now I'm moving on to Murugadoss for Ezhaam Arivu.”

Suriya shot in three different languages for Rakthacharitra. “I first did it in Tamil so that I could get the emotion and lines right and then, I would do it in Hindi and then in Telugu. We shot each scene thrice. I am able to manage Hindi.”

Ram Gopal Varma was all praise for Suriya's commitment to getting in shape for an action sequence. “He wanted me to take my shirt off. So I asked him for a little time and worked on getting more definition, a lean mean look. Not exactly a six pack. It's a hi-intensity action film, a complete men's film as RGV calls it.”

On the home front, Suriya and Jyotika are expecting another baby in June. “Before delivery, I will be in Chennai. Look forward to spending more time with Jo and the babies.”

He's a proud brother too. “I am super happy about Karthi, I like him and his movies too. He'll be playing roles much younger than mine, so no competition,” he laughs.

SURIYA: ON MOVING TO BOLLYWOOD

Ever since Suriya was signed by Ram Gopal Varma's Raktha Charithra there were speculations that the actor may move on to Bollywood. However, this level headed actor says that the style of working in Bollywood is quite different from that of the Tamil film industry. Suriya has said that the making of a Hindi film takes a longer time when compared to the Tamil movies. He adds that Raktha Charithra hardly required a month's call sheet and hence he was comfortable signing up the venture. The actor is clear that his focus will lie on Kollywood.

Director Hari has completed the entire shooting of 'Singam' with Suriya and is now busy with planning promotional activities for the film. He recently completed a photo session with the leading stars Suriya and Anushka.As Suriya will be busy with his first Hindi film 'Raktha Charithra' soon, Hari is over working to can all the materials that would be required for the promotions as the film's release gets nearer. Suriya who would go for a change of get up as usual for the new Hindi film is also cooperating with the director to complete all formalities before he gets into the mood of 'Raktha Charithra'. So much that the duo have even shot a few video interviews which would be give to television channels at the time of release. Terrific forethoughts!
